About Taos Hound Underground
OUR MISSION
Our purpose is to provide homeless, abandoned, in-need dogs of Taos County with safe temporary housing, veterinary care including disease and parasite prevention, fresh clean water, appropriate food, and welfare focused behavior assistance.
WHAT WE DO
THU helps Taos and Taos County dogs feel safe and receive food, fresh water, health care, housing, and humane treatment.
Some Taos dogs have been out on their own for months to years and require compassion, time, patience, and humans well-versed in dog body language, fearful dogs, and dog behavior.
We provide all of that and more!
Each volunteer is given on site training by our Founder and Professional Dog Trainer, Jen Havens, so that they understand what each pup needs and how to provide those things. There’s a lot of observation of body language and down time to just hang in between cleaning and building. Our volunteers are top notch!
We also fundraise! As we all know, vet care is expensive, so we fundraise in order to provide the BEST possible care for all THU pups through Taos Veterinary Clinic. Whether the dogs in need are staying with us at the Underground or are being cared for by a community member, we will help! We’ve provided over $12,000 in vet care to our local community since 1/1/24 through Taos Veterinary Clinic, Salazar Road Veterinary Clinic, and Creature Comforts Low Cost Mobile Veterinarian (Dr. Monica Silvers, DVM).
Dog food, bowls, leashes, martingale collars, metal trash cans for food storage, supplements, deworming, flea preventatives, and more supplies are also needed. We count on funds from our generous Taos community so we may provide everything each pup needs to have a most comfortable stay while at Taos Hound Underground.
